While my approach is informed by humanist theories, I do not let these theories limit or define my work. I strive to meet clients where they are in their lives and understand their future aspirations. This understanding helps me tailor my therapeutic approach to best suit each individual. I make it a point to regularly check in with clients to ensure the path we're on is effective and aligned with their needs. My core philosophy is to assist the person as they are, not as a problem to be solved.
I believe in the impermanence of life's challenges and the importance of finding humor in life's absurdities. This perspective can be especially beneficial for those dealing with anxiety or depression. However, I am careful not to impose this view on my clients, respecting their individual experiences and perspectives.
In my years of practice, the recurring themes of shame and loneliness have been particularly striking. Shame often drives people away from engaging with their lives, while loneliness creates a fear of rejection, trapping individuals in a state of longing. Addressing these issues requires a gentle and patient environment, one where trust is built and maintained. I focus on offering a judgment-free space where clients can openly discuss their feelings and experiences.
The resilience people show in living through traumatic experiences, both major and minor, continues to amaze me. While many complications can prevent individuals from recognizing their own strength, the ability to endure and persevere is truly remarkable.
My decision to pursue this career was influenced by witnessing the widespread devastation caused by wars, disease outbreaks, housing crises, and financial instability. I felt a strong desire to help not only those directly affected but also those on the frontlines providing assistance.
Over the years, my commitment to this work has only grown stronger as I've seen the positive impact and growth in the people I've worked with. I am deeply grateful for every individual who has crossed the threshold of my door.
During my practice, I've engaged with clients facing a variety of challenges. This includes working through past or current traumas, depressive states, grief, a range of anxious states, suicidal thoughts, and both planned and unplanned life changes. I have also helped individuals dealing with dependency issues and navigating life post-addiction.
